What can I do?

Helping Hand Food Pantry

We are helping people in our community

to fight hunger.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Helping Hand’s Mission Statement
Helping Hand is a program supported by the congregation of this church.  We supply food to people of our community on an emergency basis.  Other area churches and local organizations participate in this program by providing additional food and monetary donations that assist us in keeping the church pantry supplied.  These are our sole sources of assistance to aid those who come to us in need.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The Helping Hand Food Pantry is open    Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.* If it is your first time, please come before 12:30 p.m. To qualify to receive food from the pantry, a picture I.D. is required.  Only one person per household (per address) is eligible to apply for assistance for the family.  Eligible participants can receive food from the pantry once every other month**.

*may be closed due to bad weather, or a church event; it’s best to call ahead

**subject to change depending on food supply

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Since 1989, the food pantry has served an increasing number of families every year and remains committed to addressing food insecurity in southeast Michigan where, as many as 1 in 7, households struggle to put food on the table.
During the Covid-19 Pandemic, we have maintained our weekly food distribution. We developed a contact-less delivery system for the protection of our clients and our workers.
How can I donate food?
Generally, you can drop off non-perishable food items to the church Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., but please call ahead.
"The Doors of this Church Are As Wide As God's Love." --Dr. Frank Irvine
This quotation from Dr. Frank J. Irvine, the founding Pastor of Cherry Hill Presbyterian, is as true today as it was over 75 years ago.  Dr. Irvine was called to plant a seed of a Mission Church in West Dearborn and it has grown and flourished.  The congregation lives this philosophy - that God is love, and we are bound to love our neighbor as ourselves.  We find God's love in Worship, in Fellowship, in Service to others, and in giving back to our community.
COVID-19 Updates
Nothing has been cancelled.  Yes, we all use that word in these unprecedented times.  But it is a word which truly only means certain things are postponed.  In person meetings are postponed.  Generally, entry into the church building is postponed.  But "cancelled?"  No.
  The work of the church is most definitely not cancelled.  Our mission is still in place and our members' support is vibrant.  Helping Hands Food Pantry has not missed a week during the shutdown.  We use special procedures to ensure maximum safety for both our clients and our staff.
In Person Worship
The decision to suspend or resume activities is not taken lightly nor by any one person.  Our Session has designated a team tasked with the responsibility of determining when we can resume our usual activities safely.  When that occurs, we shall proclaim it as loudly as Joshua's trumpeters at the battle of Jericho.
Memorial Garden
Our Memorial Garden offers a place for those who desire to have a quiet reflective spot available for remembering loved ones who have passed.  Some members have also had their cremains spread here so that they may always be close to us.
